Review – Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion

16 May

I received a sample of the Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion in my Ipsy in April.  I realized that I never posted my April goodies, SO SORRY!!!

However, I loved this so much I needed to tell you lovelies.

The sample lasted me a few uses.  I thought this was so phenomenal, I ordered a full size after the first use.

Why I love it –

This says that is mimics a salon/spa microdermabrasion and it really does.  I have never felt anything remotely close to a professional micro before this.  I  was sold, immediately.

If you have never had a professional microdermabrasion, expect to feel like there are a million little rocks/ crystals/diamond flakes scrubbing your face.   It doesn’t sting while you are doing it, but it doesn’t feel good.

Your face will be tender afterwards.  It can be red.  It can sting when you apply another product after, especially if it is anything “anti-aging”.

I use it twice a week like the company suggests, and I am loving the results.

SO MUCH CHEAPER than a salon/spa service.

Go get you some!

Korean Make-Up Obsession – Continues

4 Feb

Hello Dears!

As you may remember, I have been craving some Korean cosmetics.  The Koreans not only launched this  BB and CC craze, but they are stepping up their game.  And creating make-up that is crazy multifunctional.  We are talking major make-up science.

I posted here about some online retailers that carry Korean products in the US and for the US market.  If you are in the glorious Europe, I have no clue about your access to these creations.

On Friday, instead of buying 1 product, I got a sample pack of 12 (TWELVE!!!!) BB and CC Creams.

12 samples for $6.38 USD Click here to get you some.

This is coming to me from Korea, so I have no idea how long the shipping will be.  It could be up to a month, but I hope it is quicker.

Cosmetic Love is an awesome site!  SOOOO  many products.

Have you tried the Asian beauty products yet?

Advice From an Expert – Special Guest Post and Special Deal for Chicago!

12 Dec

We are trying new ideas here on Fairy Godmother and one of the ideas we are considering is Advice from an Expert.

For our debut, I asked my friend Beth who is a cosmetician and owns her own med spa. Yes, home girl has skills.  She is also responsible for keeping my almost 40 year old face looking like a hot little boss.

I asked Beth for skin care advice during the Winter months.

It is important to moisturize your face no matter the time of year, but it is imperative during the winter months. If you already have dry skin, you should up the amount of times you apply per day, but the key here is to not skip over your neck and chest.

Keep your skin moisturized: Choose a good, oil-based moisturizer to keep the skin moisturized and soft. Pay special attention to the exposed parts (and the most affected areas) like your hands, nails, feet and lips. Keep them well moisturized at all times.  Even those who have oily skin must use light moisturizing lotions after cleansing to keep the skin healthy and helps maintains the pH Balance. It is important to use a mild facial cleanser and wash with lukewarm water, hot water can strip your skin of its essential oils and your skin can become too dry and irritated. Make sure to exfoliate at least 2-3 times per week this will help promote skin cell turnover and also allow for better product penetration.
Use a good sunscreen: People like to enjoy the sun during winters but little do they know that exposure to the sun can harm their skin in winter too. Use a sunscreen of SPF 30 or more and make sure that it contains Zinc.  In fact, it should be a part of your daily routine throughout the year. Don’t say goodbye to your sunscreen just because summer is over
Do not lick your lips: Winter is the season of chapped lips and licking them will make them more chapped. Use a good lip balm to keep your lips soft and protected. Lip balm with Vit E works well.
For Chicago area folks, Beth is offering a special on Microdermabrasion.  I get this, and I swear by it.  Yeah, you may looked a bit jacked up the next day, but Honeypie, by day 3 you are amazing.

Best BB Cream For Your Skin

16 Oct

BB and CC creams are ALL the rage right now.  Woman in Korea have been using them for years but the cosmetic trend in the US has just started to pick up over the last few years.

What is a BB cream?  BB creams are essentially and All-In-one product that acts as a moisturizer/foundation/sunscreen.  Some of them have skin correcting anti-aging ingredients, some have ingredients to correct redness or dark spots.  Really, they are all quite different.

As they aim to replace all your other products, sometimes you just need to layer.  If you have super dry skin you might need to apply moisturizer first.  Bad breakout? Probably need concealer or even foundation over the BB cream.

Best For Oily Skin:
L’Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream ($10.95, lorealparisusa.com)

Best For Pale Skin:
Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25 PA++ ($34, sephora.com); one shade

Best For Dark Skin (and Medium and Light):
Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector SPF 30 ($7.44, maybelline.com)

I personally need a more medium-full coverage Foundation so I have yet to find a BB cream that can replace my go-to 100% Pure Foundation.  But if you are one of those people lucky enough to not have to wear foundation, a BB cream might be perfect for you.     -kassi
